Degree Objectives

Objective 1

Prototype and complete original games for multiple platforms following the full game production pipeline.

SIP Paper Prototype

The paper prototype demonstrated my ability to make a paper prototype. The prototype included three different levels that showed how my SIP would be used once in digital form.

Angry Hedgehog Popper

This Hedgehog hates balloons and wants them all popped. Walk around and get in position to shoot those balloons down. Be careful though they might be hard to get to and some other critters might get in your way. Be smart with your quills because you only have a certain amount. Get to popping and make this angry hedgehog's day!

Unreal Levels

I made several levels in Unreal where I practiced blueprinting skills and game elements.

Unity UI Project

I worked on UI elements in both Unreal and Unity. I was able to practice programming skills in Unity and blueprinting skills in Unreal.

Objective 2

Create and implement game elements, systems and play mechanics using industry-standard tools, techniques and production methods, including both art and scripting/programming applications.

Dino Coin Adventure

You play as a simple greedy dinosaur. He wants all the coins he can find. Collect all the coins and bring them back to your nest but watch out a lot of other things are protecting them.

Just merge the cubes and get some points!

Racers

Race your way to victory. Beat the other two cars in a race full of dangerous obstacles, make sure to avoid them or you might just end up dead.

Together in a group, we designed a fantasy three-player level. It took a lot of time and constant meeting in figuring out how the level would be and keep it in theme.

Objective 4

Demonstrate the ability to evaluate game designs for a variety of gameplay mechanics, game applications, and game genres.

Narrative in Games

I assessed several games and their narratives. I looked at what their narrative did right and what was good about it, and I also looked at what was poor or lack-luster about their narratives.

Good Games

I share my opinions on what makes a good game with several examples of games that I believe are good and some that I don't.

Single & Multiplayer

I compared and contrasted good single player and multiplayer games against bad single player and multiplayer games.

Game Components

I looked at some game components and how they add to the experience of gaming while also looking at games that use these components very well.

Objective 5

Effectively articulate game design elements and mechanics across disciplines utilizing written and verbal communication skills.

Death Bunker

The objective of the game is to escape the bunker and avoid the killer. The two players have to find keys and solve puzzles to unlock the exit all while avoiding and hiding from the killer.

Criminal's Choice

A narrative choice story that I had written. The story is about a man who dies and fights his way through purgatory battles to earn a place in heaven. Make the wrong choice and you will end up in hell.

Kingdom of Ballis

A narrative choice story that I had written, the story is about a young girl who is in love with the princess. Once the king finds out, he bans the two of them from seeing each other and sends the young girl to the dungeon. The princess ends up being taken. You play as the young girl in love with the princess as you go on a journey to save her and prove that love matters more than tradition.

Card Game

This is a card game developed with a simple deck of classic cards. 

You have been tasked to design a level, when designing a level there are four things the lead game designer has required of you.

  • Ability/Mechanics

  • Obstacles/Puzzles/Enemies

  • Level Layout 

  • Theme

You want an equal amount of scope, time, and quality to your level. Use the cards wisely. You need to keep the iron triangle in mind, the scope is already decided you just need to think about time and resources.

Objective 6

I did a tutorial for a level editor called Toaster Jam. It explains how to use the editor and its features so others can make levels themselves. 

Mario Maker 2 Tutorial

I did a tutorial for Mario Maker 2's level editor. It explains how to use the editor and its features so others can make levels themselves in a basic way without having Nintendo Online. 

Dank, Dark, Run

A race to the finish game type, you and your friends have been trapped in a haunted mansion. The ghosts are only letting one member get away. Answer questions and move through the house to be the first person to make it to the end and out of the house!
